the feels
I pledge allegiance, to the feels, of the united feels of America, and to the feelings for which it stands, one nation, under feelings, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
I never understood why they made us recite that pledge every morning.
I mean, what if I don’t feel like it.
What if my throat hurts?
What if I feel like identifying as a mute on this particular day?
“So class, what do you feel like learning today?“
I rolled my eyes.
Here we go again.
The responses came flying in like wild birds.
“I feel like learning about the weather.“
“I feel like learning about pirates.“
“I feel like hang gliding.“
“I feel like walking out.“
It was the same routine everyday.
We spend the first half of the day expressing our feelings about what we should learn.
Then we go to lunch.
If we we feel like it.
And then we return for another three hour session of expressing our feelings about what we should learn.
At this point I’ve learned to just be quiet.
After the usual eight hour debate session, I walked out and hopped in my moms car.
Here we go again.
“So honey how do you feel today?“
“Fine, what about you?“
“Eh, I feel great. I told my boss I didn’t feel like working today, so I’ve been home all day.“
As we drove home I saw about 4 car accidents, which was lower than usual.
Obviously some people felt like running red lights.
When we got home I crawled upstairs.
I usually felt like playing video games, but today I was tired.
I closed the door and my eyes.
I had a dream.
A dream about a world that wasn’t governed by feelings.
A world that had rules, and structure.
A world of order instead of chaos.
I awoke in a panic.
What a silly dream.
