the red car

She was beautiful.

I couldn’t take my eyes off her.

I stared as she accelerated past me.

Zoom Zoom.

She looked young.

And judging from her temporary tags, she was fresh off the lot.

She was wearing red, which made her curves stand out even more.

She swerved in front of me, and I saw her from behind.

She had a lot.

and I mean a lot

Of junk in her trunk.

I had to catch her.

I sped up.

But as soon as I got close.

She took off.

At first I thought it might have been an accident.

But soon, I noticed…

She was mirroring me.

As I hunted, she fled.

I put the petal to the metal and scrambled in a mad dash.

I had tunnel vision.

Reaching…

Chasing…

But never catching.

I pursued her for miles before I realized…

I was lost.

I had missed my turn.

I was off course.

Distracted.

It’s funny.

As soon as I came to my senses…

She seemed to slow down.

But it was too late.

I was done playing her little game.

I swerved, and got off at the nearest exit.

Leaving her to continue alone.

As I began to retreat I noticed something.

A pair of headlights in my rearview.

As they got closer, and closer…

I noticed…

A red reflection.

I smiled, before hitting the gas.
